During the Covid-19 pandemic, Histopath Diagnostic Specialists partnered with the government to provide the world’s leading solutions for RT-PCR testing of patients for Covid-19, establishing the first rapid PCR testing clinics in Australia, providing results to millions of patients.
Histopath began offering the Covid Tests for all the international and domestic travellers who needed a quick test turnaround prior to departure. These tests were performed at Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Community clinics. The reports produced met airline, country and international body (IATA) guidelines.
To handle the high volume of travellers and provide them with Covid-19 test results at the right time was a challenge for Histopath. So Histopath invested in the latest technology, enabling its team to achieve world leading turnaround times for Covid-19 PCR tests. Histopath engaged with Intergy to build the complete booking, kiosk and lab scanning software systems.
Intergy also worked closely with Histopath’s existing IT provider, Phillips IT, who played the leading role in infrastructure and network support, hardware selection, requirements articulation and application user acceptance testing (on behalf of Histopath). We are grateful for the support we received from Phillips IT which helped to ensure the success of the project under challenging conditions.

Registration - Easy-to-use web interface for travellers
The intuitive web interface enables travellers to easily book a Covid 19 test at any of the Histopath clinics including the airports. Travellers travelling by Cruise or Airline are able to book tests for an individual or group of passengers. The flexible interface provides them with an option to select the test location and travel direction, and enter all the details needed for identification. The application is designed to generate required travel certificates by other countries. The system integrates with email and SMS gateways provided flexibility to receive notifications on their test booking and test results. For online payment, the registration forms use payment gateways Till and PayPal to securely process the payment.
Kiosk Application - Effortless Covid 19 test booking at the Airport
When a passenger arrives at the airport, they can simply scan their passport and confirm their personal details in the kiosk app, or book and pay for the test on the spot (either via cash or card). The kiosk app is integrated with a Thales passport reader, Linkly EFTPOS to receive the payment, and label printers like the Citizen-CL-S531 to print the unique specimen barcodes.
Lab Application – for processing the test results
The Histopath Lab App is a configurable specimen collection and resulting tool to process the results of RT-PCR, Rapid Antigen, and IgM (S/N) Blood Antibody tests. The resulting screens of the app are also designed to be used by people suffering from colour blindness. An integrated communication gateway ensures optimal processing of test results via email and SMS. With the ClickOnce deployment technology, the Lap App is self-updating when revisions are rolled out.
Admin tool - for managing the bookings
The user-friendly admin portal provides an option to search the for travellers booking and edit it for any inaccuracies. The manage booking module provides convenient access to all traveller booking information, test result reports, billing information, cancellation and refund processing. The admin portal configuration and device management page provide a unique, intuitive way of viewing all the devices mapped with kiosk apps, printers, lab apps, etc.
